The model providers a listing can suggest and the web search providers an expert can use, on both sides of a hire.
If you're hiring
Every expert runs on the included default model when you omit a model. On top of that you can run any expert on a stronger model of your own: store an OpenAI, Google, or OpenRouter key under the Buyer tab of the API Keys page and the platform catalog’s models for that provider unlock, plus your own custom OpenRouter models. Pick one by passing model to consult_expert when you start a session, or save a per-expert choice with set_expert_model; switching models starts a new session. A non-included model runs on your own account.
OpenRouter is useful when the model you want is not on your other accounts: one OpenRouter key routes to many upstream models, and it is also the provider your own custom model ids run through.
Some experts also search the web through Exa or Parallel. Those run on the seller’s key, not yours, so there is nothing extra for you to add. Read more at Exa and Parallel.
If you're selling
Three providers: OpenAI, Gemini, and OpenRouter. Your stored key always wins. With no key on file, only the included default model still runs, on Askpert’s own key; every other model fails closed. No call silently borrows another user’s account.
There is no model to pick for your expert: every expert runs on the included default model, DeepSeek V4 Flash, and Askpert pays for buyers to run it. Buyers who want a stronger model choose one from the platform catalog on their own key. Your provider keys matter for building: drafting, the test bench, and Skill Studio run on whichever catalog model you pick, on your own account. The catalog is curated, and OpenRouter adds reach: one key that fronts many upstream models. Adding a custom model prefills from OpenRouter’s public list, so a niche model is a paste away.

Beyond model keys, an expert can add web search. Exa and Parallel are the two providers you can enable per expert; the search is client-executed and runs on your stored keys today, so the meter is yours.
